My thoughts go out to the Damm family on this sad day, that you have strength and peace during this difficult period.
Even though we never really worked on the same project, I was lucky to know Herbert and to learn from him. His approach taught me a lot about teamwork and about valuing people above all else. When the projects were difficult and the situations challenging, when sometimes people were upset, I remember Herbert standing out and keeping his positive outlook. Through his optimistic attitude, he many times contributed to bring a more positive and more relaxed approach towards the problems.
And I'm sure that many colleagues remember like I do, that one could go to Herbert and ask for advice or help, and he would usually have a cheerful smile and an uplifting laugh. I will surely remember his laugh and optimism, because it could make even the worst of days become better.
My sincere condolences to his family and everyone else who knew him.

Herbert was one the kindest persons I know.
When you talked with him, he always gave you the feeling that he appreciated you as a person.
A terrible loss for all who know him, especially for his family.

I worked close With Herbert for a couple of years and was shocked by this news. We had a friendly relationship and made a lot of jokes about our work, but Herbert was also very dedicated in his job and duties. Hé solved many technical problems and never gave up In finding an appropriate solution. I will remember your smile and goodness. Thanks for knowing you.

In this way, Herbert gave a personal twist to the formal work we were doing. Some attention for the person and a social chat. To me Herbart was a sweet, gentle man who was involved in his work with great enthusiasm. Rest in peace Herbert.

The news of Herbert's passing away really shocked me. I'm happy to have worked with Herbert and will always remember Herbert as a very friendly, positive and dedicated colleague. Always willing to help and making time for a little chat. I will miss your presence.

We recieved the sad news that Herbert Damm has passed away. Many Rijkswaterstaat people in Delft The Netherlands knew and liked Herbert. Many mentioned his hard Work and upbeat nature but even more people remember him as a real familyman.

Liebe Familie Damm,
ein persönliches Schreiben von mir ist auf dem Weg zu Ihnen aber ich möchte Ihnen auch hier mein Mitgefühl ausdrücken und vor allen Kolleginnen und Kollegen schreiben, wie sehr ich Ihren Mann und Vater geschätzt habe, denn er war nicht nur ein hervorragender Mitarbeiter sondern ein ganz besonderer Mensch mit viel Gefühl für uns alle. Die richtigen Worte für diesen enormen Verlust sind schwer zu finden. Herbert war ein großartiger Kollege. Ich habe seine Intelligenz, seinen Humor und sein warmes Herz immer geschätzt. Wir vermissen ihn.

When reading Herbert passed away it felt like my throat was squeezed. This most elegant and amiable friend is an example for everybody. His dedication to his family and his attitude are a true demonstration of his altitude in life. I wish you all good thoughts in memory of Herbert.

Herbert was an authentic example of constructiveness, friendship, positive attitude, and desire to help others. There are times when there are too few words left to heal us when what we wish for is to be carried when all we have left is the hope that tomorrow will be a more gentle place to land than today.
